SOCIETY FOR INHERITED METABOLIC DISORDERS

42nd Annual Meeting: April 26 - 29, 2020
Hilton Austin, Austin, Texas
Update: SIMD2020 Cancelled due to Coronavirus (COVID-19):

On March 14, 2020 the Mayor of the City of Austin issued an Order prohibiting gatherings of 250 or more people effective March 15 - May 1, 2020

SIMD had been continuously monitoring the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization on the spread of the novel coronavirus disease COVID-19. In addition to restrictions on international and domestic travel; SIMD leadership had become aware of a rapidly increasing number of travel bans being imposed on employees by healthcare institutions and companies across the US, along with rising concerns that travel to large group gatherings is not judicious from a public and personal health perspective. The decision to cancel the conference was under discussion at the time the Mayor's order was issued.
The SIMD Conference Planning Committee and Board of Directors share your disappointment that the conference is cancelled, but the health and safety of our attendees and their families is of utmost importance. At this time, we are considering our options, including postponement to a later date or permanent cancellation. It might take a matter of weeks or longer to sort through the matter. We will notify the membership as soon as a decision is made.
This is an unprecedented situation and SIMD asks your patience and understanding as we work through the complex logistics of this difficult circumstance. We ask that you not email or call the SIMD while we are working through the details.
Individuals who are already registered for the conference, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors will be receiving additional information by email shortly. We will continue to post information to this website as it becomes available.

The SIMD meeting will be held April 26-29, 2020 at the Hilton Austin in Austin Texas and will feature sessions on:
  • Immunology and inflammation in IEM's
  • Clinical trials: Planning for approval success and pitfalls to avoid
  • PCORI projects
  • Unknown and Challenging Metabolic Cases
  • Homocystinurias
  • Best of the submitted abstracts talks
  • Selected abstracts focused on treatments
  • Travel award winner presentations
  • Presentations from the Shapira award winner and the JSIMD Young Investigator Award winner
  • Posters will be displayed for the entire meeting allowing their view during breaks and an attended Poster session
  • Exhibits from top IEM companies
  • A half day joint session on April 29th with the Genetic Metabolic Dieticians International (GMDI) which will feature a session on Adult Complications of IEM's.

We will have a Contributed paper session featuring the abstracts of our travel award winners, and the opportunity to hear and support the next generation of SIMD contributors and members. As in the past, young trainees can apply for travel awards. CME and CEU for nurses and genetic counselor credits will also be available.
